The Skyhawk Flying Group was formed early in 1992 when the original owner of G-BRBI decided to sell shares in the aircraft. The group remained this way until 1994 when the group increased to five and Nigel, who is still a member joined.
The group increased to six members in 1997 and increased again in 2004 to its current level.
Today we have nine members, this makes good usage of the aircraft and has proved to be the perfect size for a group of our 'type' .. i.e. pleasure flying and touring. We keep in regular contact with group meetings.
Group members fly together regularly on trips all over the UK.
The group have organised tours and one of the best was a tour Round the UK following the mainland coastline in teams of two taking just over 9 days
All of us are members of the Spitfire Flying Club at Popham and enjoy flying from this relaxed yet challenging airfield in rural Hampshire. It's the offset approaches to the runways 26 & 08 and the approach over the trees/A303 on the downhill runway 03 that tend to focus your attention in the final stages!
Most of the flying is within a 2-3 hour radius and also includes the near continent, Le Touquet, Deauville and the Channel Islands being favourite destinations, although the aircraft has been to Corsica, the Orkneys and the Shetland Isles.
